“Just Breathe” Sermon Series Intro
Posted by Travis on May 3, 2008Well, it has been a while since a worthwhile post came to these parts. I decided I am going to try to get back on the blog-bandwagon along with a couple of other potential web activities that you shall hear about soon enough.
I am posting a video that we will be using in church for the next few weeks as the sermon intro, between worship and the message. The series is “Just Breathe” and it is a 4 week study on the Holy Spirit.
I don’t know if it is good or bad to say that this video is the result of the better part of two days work, spread over a week. The graphic appearing at the end was designed by Chris for the series. I worked backwards from it to animate it and add motion along with all the text. Chris did the initial design in Photoshop I did all the animation in After Effects and created the “flourishes” that grow in the video in Illustrator. The text may change week to week, I am not sure yet.
The music behind it is “The Adventure” by Angels & Airwaves. (I tried posting on YouTube first but couldn’t get audio in there for some reason, so it’s hosted on my site and may take a bit longer to play.)
Enjoy

Pretty freakin sweet AE master
Ah yes Evolution and trendy polar coordinates… should’ve known. And of course Angels and Airwaves? I see you in all your glorious design nakedness.
Nicely composed. Personally, would have added a slight rotation to the background, along with some swoosh sfx.
P.S. I added your blog to my RSS feed. Can’t wait for a regular dose of the ultimate Travisty.
Mikey… Evolution and polar coordinates? I dunno what you mean by evolution. And I didn’t use any polar coordinates. I used a camera and moved it around the text objects. And good idea on the rotating background, I started to use that but I felt it was too much movement and distracted from the text that was changing pretty quickly. I wanted to make sure people were reading.
Mikey I need to see some of your stuff, I hear good things.
One of my main goals this summer is my demo reel. Got enough stuff to piece something together. I will probably keep Moncus involved as he has creative vision, and in effect I’m sure I will have you offer advice.
But the Evolution thing… the vector floral things you used remind me of an animated stock art set from VideoCopilot.net - popular After Effects tutorial / product site. Very useful stuff I might add. Your style dictates you might glean a lot off of his free tutorials, if you haven’t already checked them out. Did you (or Moncus) make those vector shapes? Impressive if you did.
Ah the floral things. I have always referred to them as “flourishes,” I never knew what to search for when I was trying to figure out how to first do them. I haven’t hit up that site but I will. Pretty much the only AE tutorials I have used were on CreativeCow.com.
The two different flourishes in the video were cut from images we had. The “corners” were ones that Chris had in a PS file and I cut it up in PS and brought in the layers. The flourishes that are more 3D in the video were ones I tweaked from a file I had in AI but not from scratch. I cut it up into layers in AI and brought it in.
I have made some of those in the past but was under time constraints with this one. All that are in the video aside from the end corners I did at the end of day when I had to have it done. I had “finished” and had about two hours left and was just trying to make the video a little less boring.

Awesome video travis!!
Saw it for the first time today. Had Fam Jam last week. Very impressive!! You have done an amazing job as your role of tech director.
